The first two years are critical for small trees and I wanted to give them some relief from the afternoon sun. I used greenhouse "snap clamps" every 18 inches to attach the shade cloth to frames made of 3/4-inch EMT. The shade cloth was up from May 1 through October 31. It worked perfectly. No rips or fraying during monsoon storms and there was no visible degradation of the material when I took it down at the end of the season.
