★★★★★★★★★★ Hoping that this will outshine multiple failed screen tents and canopiesWe live where the wind blows constantly. In fact, there’s a joke that when the wind stops blowing, all the livestock and wildlife fall over! That being said, we generally do not expect any kind of screen tent, canopy, or other sun protection unit to last more than a season. Patio umbrellas? Forget it. If you’ve ever seen the movie, “Mary Poppins” and the umbrella lifting her into the air, you’ve got the picture. Umbrellas, screen tents, canopies: the wind catches the fabric, the frame bends and breaks, the fabric rips as a result of the jagged edges of the broken frame, and we are back to where we started.A canopy sail without a frame seemed like a possible alternative, so we ordered this. The fabric is thick, but light enough to work with. The grommets are heavy-duty, and the stitching is even. Our hot tub/spa is between the garage and the house, and our grand kids actually use it in the summer time as a small splashing pool. At our elevation, the sun is bright and hot. The house and garage are 30 ft apart. To install, we installed large diameter eye bolts on the house and the garage and used carabiners to attach the rope from the shade to the eye bolts. There wasn’t quite enough rope because of our way of doing this, but we purchased additional rope. Depending on where the sun is at any given time of the day, we can let down one side for better shade.I cannot speak to this shade’s durability at this time as we just installed it for the summer. If it makes it through one whole summer, it will be doing better than anything else we’ve ever used.We have paid hundreds of dollars for some of the units we have purchased in our quest for shade so at $95, even if it only lasts one season, we feel we will have accomplished our goal. Here’s hoping!1 person found this helpful
