If you are handy with a drill and screwdriver, installation isn't bad. All the hardware needed cans with it. The hardest part was the little carabiners.The hook that comes with it to pull the shade along the cables is plastic. The wife broke it on the first pull. Put a hook on the end of a broomstick handle so, not an issue and much better. Also, replaced the little rope you hook for sliding with some chain to hang a lamp.Overall if you're comfortable on a ladder and using tools, it's a couple-hour project that doesn't cost a lot.Added a couple pics with suggestions. Use a little loctite on the turnbuckle screw. They loosen with vibration from sliding on the cable. Had one fall out during some pretty intense wind.Connect the last panel on the close side to the hook in the wall to hold shade in place when you open it, unless you want the ability to open it from both sides.

I wanted to add a bit of character to our patio and this looks great. It was not very difficult to install with two of us. All hardware was provided. Instructions were clear. It is higher up than a pergola shade might be so the hook with its handle is too short for us to use to retract the shade-- only improvement would be to have an extension handle on that, but we will not retract it often so we can deal with it. I am quite pleased with this product overall.

We're using this over our deck in the backyard. The sun here in New Mexico can get extreme, and being a native of the Northeast, even after 15 years I can't quite get used to baking like a human potato. i was going to build a permanent structure with a sun shade fabric over that, but we wanted something we could open and close. At night, the stars and planets are visible, there's no city lights to wash it out, and can be like something you've never seen before at certain times of year. This did the trick for all purposes, keeps me from baking, and letting the night sky be seen by retracting it. It's manual, but really nothing to pulling it open and closed. During the day, the difference in temp under this is around 10 - 15 degrees lower, and can make a really hot afternoon much more bearable. This comes with all you need to install it, although I did change out the cable wire to something a little heavier. There's nothing wrong with what's included, it's just the winds here can suddenly be gusting 50-60MPH when a front is coming in, and I wanted a cable I could really crank down tight on, and be sure this huge awning wouldn't transform into a huge sail, and take off like Dorothy into the sky. From up where I'm at, if there's enough wind, it could literally end up somewhere in the White Sands National Park, gone forever. The shade that is included seems pretty solid, and really doesn't let hardly any sunlight through at all, and does a pretty good job. We're happy with how well it works for us. Install is straight forward, but having a few people around, and extra hands is definitely handy, especially with a big piece of fabric 7' x 16'. Getting cable up was the most involved, at least for my purposes. One end was connected to the roof eave, the other was out in space, and had to erect some solid posts in concrete before I even started. This needs to be as close to level as possible for a nice, smooth ride for the fabric to open and retract. This sells for $186.99 (as of this review, 7' x 16' size), and a fairly decent price for what we got. I looked around at these, prices are pretty much all over the place, depending on the manufacturer of the sun shade. I couldn't tell a whole lot of difference between those that cost $200 or $1,200, and I'm not in the $1,200 sun shade tax bracket. If this is something your home needs, I can tell you it works as stated, and we have had no issues with it at all. And really, there's not much that can break down, unless you have no working arms around to open and close it. I guess you could hang a long rope on it and teach your dog something new, and have him/her do it. My Boston Terrier refuses. A nice shade, at a good price. Worth the money to have some shade when it's really needed.

Its not as easy to install unless you got the right tools but it's definitely worth it!

I installed this retractable pergola cover by myself in just over 1 hour. I is very nice and is easy to retract when not in use.I would have rated the cover as a 5 if it had been shipped with all of the parts. The mounting kit was not included, even though the description on Amazon clearly shows it with all mounting pieces needed. I requested the mounting kit and received a kit still with missing parts. I purchased missing installation parts from Home Depot to complete the mounting.

I love the design and idea of this awning since it can retract and be moved to allow sun or shade when desired. Installation was not difficult to figure out, although I had to trial-and-error some of it in the beginning to get the distance using the control tape the way I want it. You do need to have a structure existing or prepared to work with this awning in order to install it. The length is seven feet wide and can stretch out to sixteen feet long. Make sure you figure out your lengths to determine how much area you want to be covered. I am pleased with the quality of the fabric, easy to follow installation instructions, and value considering how much area it can cover. I went with the darker brown color because I figured it would show less dirt, but it looks a little too commercial for our backyard.

We ordered five of these shade covers; three of them came with none of the hardware and one of them was the wrong color. First I screamed into the void of despair, since the listing plainly says "What’s included? Fabric with panels, wire cable, pad eye, retract rod, control tape, turnbuckle, wire clips" but there were in fact no pad eyes, turnbuckles, or wire clips, nor the also-required "shackle screw pin buckle" or ceiling hooks. And then I spent an shopping for all of those parts on Amazon and ordering them at the low-low price of another $140 because I definitely don't have time to play pattycakes with the seller on fixing their mistake. And then initiated a return of the wrong-color one and ordered it in the right color. Good times.But we did go ahead and install one of the shades that had all of the hardware included, and it was pretty easy. Shade seems of decent quality for the price, it looks nice, and most importantly it provides shade from the soul-crushing, never-ending, brutal full Texas sun on 107-degree days.It would just be really super nice if manufacturers/packers/whoever would do their jobs right and include everything the customer pays for.
